Our mission
We provide essential services that remove barriers, strengthen families, and promote healing when children need healthcare.
How We Started?
Ronald McDonald House Singapore is a registered society and charity with a simple mission: to remove barriers, strengthen families and promote healing when children need it most.
Founded in Singapore in 1989 as the Ronald McDonald Children's Charity, the organisation was renamed Ronald McDonald House Charities Singapore in 2013. Over the years, RMHC Singapore has evolved from a grant-giving charity into one that delivers its own programmes and services directly within hospitals, supporting families with seriously ill children. In October 2026, the organisation rebranded as Ronald McDonald House, aligning with the global brand direction while continuing its mission of keeping families close to the care and support they need.
In January 2013, with the support of the Khoo Teck Puat – National University Children's Medical Institute (KTP-NUCMI) at the National University Hospital (NUH), RMHC Singapore opened its first Ronald McDonald House, which provides accommodation to families of seriously ill children receiving treatment at NUH.
3 years later, the first Ronald McDonald House Family Room opened its doors just steps away from the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at NUH, providing a comfortable resting space for families.
Expanding further into an area that promotes positive mental health, January 2018 marked a significant milestone when Ronald McDonald House Charities Singapore opened the Ronald McDonald House Family Room at the Institute of Mental Health (IMH), offering emotional and community support to caregivers and family members of youth mental health patients. This was the first such facility in all of Asia Pacific, and the Middle East and Africa. In September 2022, Ronald McDonald House Charities Singapore opened its newest Ronald McDonald House Family Room within the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at National University Hospital (NUH). Created specifically for parents of hospitalised newborns, the Family Room offers a space for comfort and respite while staying close to their babies. The facility includes two dedicated lactation rooms for mothers.
In July 2025, Ronald McDonald House Charities Singapore was granted Institution of a Public Character (IPC) status, marking a significant milestone in our journey. This recognition enables eligible cash donations to receive tax deductions, providing donors with greater incentive to support our cause. Beyond strengthening our fundraising efforts, IPC status positions us to expand our programmes and services, allowing us to support more families and ensure they can stay close to their children during treatment and recovery.
Ronald McDonald House Singapore abides strictly to the corporate governance code set by Ronald McDonald House Global and the Charity Council of Singapore. This code includes strict requirements for Board composition, and comprehensive checks and balances for financial accountability.
Global History
Our first Ronald McDonald House opened in Philadelphia, PA, USA, in 1974, after recognising the need for parents to stay close to their hospitalised child. As we opened more House Programs around the world, it became clear that caring for the family of a sick child was as important as caring for the child.
That was the beginning of our unique role as a children's charity, enabling, supporting and facilitating family-centred care. Our Ronald McDonald House Programmes, located near top children’s hospitals, allow parents who are far from home to stay close to their hospitalised child and benefit from the comforts of home without incurring hotel and food costs.
Ronald McDonald House Family Room Programmes offer a quiet respite for all families right in the hospital.
